«The Unforgivable »

The German director Nora Fingscheidt (“ Systemsprenger ”) shows her first Hollywood flick: Ruth Slater (Sandra Bullock) is released after fifteen years in prison.

She was convicted for the murder of a police officer – the puzzle of how Ruth became a murderer in the first place is put together in the film.

Ruth is back home

Ruth's return to her former home is difficult, and there seems to be no chance of building a social environment. The family of the sheriff who was killed makes Ruth's life a hell of freedom and she is repeatedly the victim of hate attacks.

The only person Ruth remains is her sister Katie (Aisling Franciosi) – after her parents died, the then five-year-old was placed in a foster family. What Ruth doesn't know: none of the letters she wrote to her sister from prison have ever arrived.

Forgiveness and second chances

Katie has no memories of Ruth and accordingly does not know the story surrounding the murder. Together with a lawyer, Ruth wants to contact her sister again.

The film is based on the 2009 British miniseries of the same title. What convinced Fingscheidt about the story? «At its core it's about unconditional love, forgiveness and second chances. That touched me about the script, ”she says to“ Screenrant ”.

“The Unforgivable” will be available on Netflix from December 10th.

“And Just Like That…”
