The Uber transport network recalled that its mobile application is actively registering all taxi drivers interested in providing their service to generate additional income and have economic opportunities through Uber Taxi. This modality has been available to Puerto Ricans since last year to connect users with more and more mobility alternatives.
“In these times of pandemic it is more important than ever to support the island and the various productive sectors. Uber Taxi, which operates in Puerto Rico since 2019 in full compliance with local laws and regulations, not only expands the universe of travel options for app users, it also benefits taxi drivers with more alternatives to maintain the continuity of their deal. We invite all taxi drivers to register and be part of our user community, ”said Gabriel Gutiérrez, general manager for Uber in Panama and the Caribbean, through a press release.
The executive also commented that Uber Taxi is a sign of the company's commitment to continuous innovation for the benefit of its community, both taxi drivers and users. “Uber Taxi expands the reach and impact of our cutting-edge technology, a platform that our community of users already knows and trusts,” he said.
Uber Taxi works in much the same way as requesting a ride on UberX. Uber Taxi has already been rolled out in cities in more than 20 countries including Greece, Australia, Japan, the United States, Canada, Korea, Spain and Turkey. Chile is the first country in Latin America where it is available.
Taxi drivers interested in taking advantage of Uber Taxi opportunities can register in the app. The requirements to do so include being over 21 years of age, having a taxi and presenting the following documents:
• Driver's license
• Taxi operator license
• Insurance policy
• Vehicle license
• Profile picture
Gutiérrez concluded by adding: “We want to continue supporting the economic development of the island, providing options to generate profits in a way that is committed to the safety of all the people who are part of the Uber community. We ratify our commitment to contribute to the community in Puerto Rico in this context of economic reactivation and the creation of new opportunities to generate income for thousands of Puerto Ricans ”.
As with all the services available in the Uber app, Uber Taxi has protocols and recommendations focused on optimizing the safety and health of taxi drivers and users. This includes technology to verify the use of masks through a selfie, in addition to sharing recommendations and educational material for driver partners in terms of maintaining health, cleanliness and hygiene standards in their vehicles.
