The Muscular Dystrophy Association of Puerto Rico (MDA, in English) announced the new date of the Telemarathon “Share your Strength” that will take place this Saturday, October 3 from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm and will be broadcast on Telemundo.
Originally, the charity event was scheduled for the end of March, but the tremors, the COVID-19 pandemic and then the warnings of storms and hurricanes, forced the organization to postpone the program in order to ensure the health and safety of patients and work team. Six months after the decision, Gilberto Quiñones, associate executive director of MDA Puerto Rico / South Florida, said in a statement that the two-hour special edition will have a different format to comply with security measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
“The pandemic challenged us and forced us to look for alternatives to be able to carry out the Telemarathon. On this occasion, we invited the public that always accompanied us in the television studios, to join us from their homes or social networks, to give a virtual hug to the MDA families in Puerto Rico. You can give us your support through ATH Móvil / by donating and writing MDA PR or through 833-990-9908, a toll-free telephone number ”, said Quiñones.
The purpose of the new edition of the Telemarathon will be to publicize the advances in research with the support of MDA, which are already bearing fruit in the lives of patients with Muscular Dystrophy, ALS and other related diseases. The press release emphasized that the FDA has already approved nine new treatments, an unprecedented number, to address these neuromuscular conditions.
“We are very proud of the results achieved thanks to the support of every person or company on the island that is with us in this fight,” added Alan Cohen, chairman of the MDA Advisory Committee.
The program will feature animation by Raymond Arrieta and Lourdes Collazo. The musical guidelines will be set by Camila, Pedro Capó, Hermes Croatto, Plenealo, among other exponents.
