The unshakeable Cantonnier Mathys Poulin
Hard work rewarded. This is the best way to summarize in a few words the second season of forward Mathys Poulin with the Cantonniers de Magog.
At just 29 games, Poulin presents better statistics than last season. In 2018-2019, he had seven goals and seven assists for 14 points in 42 games. Poulin has already totaled 21 points, including 11 goals, since the start of this campaign.
If he has gained experience and maturity in a year, Mathys Poulin remains first and foremost a hungry player who hates half measures. The Sherbrooke native player also knows his limits.
“There are a lot of talented players who have been in this uniform for a couple of seasons. I think of Justin Robidas, Alexandre Doucet, Patrick Guay and how many others. I certainly do not pretend to compare myself to them and I do not try to imitate them. I therefore compensate with my work ethic. When you work tirelessly and don’t watch the score to know if you should give a second and even a third effort, the good things end up happening. I dare believe that this is what is happening this season, ”says Poulin.
“Mathys has experienced very good progress. In hockey lingo, it’s a late . We forget that he played more than half of the last season when he was 14 years old. He was one of the youngest in the league. Contrary to popular belief, he has very good hands. He’s not afraid of anything, ”commented his coach Félix Potvin.
Poulin was paired with a new trio companion when Tristan Roy returned with the Cantonniers last month. “It’s true that it works very well between the two of us. Thierry Bernier complemented us wonderfully until he was injured. I am also used on the second wave of our power play. I am trusted on a regular basis when playing with one less man. I do not feel tired. Our training is always well balanced, ”says Poulin.
For many, the first quality of the 2019-2020 edition of Cantonniers is the attention to detail and the will to play as a team. “It’s pretty amazing to see all the players contributing like this. We all want to improve game after game. We learn in each part. We know that we will have to be even better during the playoffs. We won nothing. Modesty is essential. The parity is such that everyone believes in their chances of winning in the league. We saw it with Rivière-du-Loup at the CCM Challenge. The message is clear as far as I am concerned, ”indicates the one who was claimed by the Baie-Comeau Drakkar during the last QMJHL draft.
During the local games of the team, Mathys Poulin is the color holder of the Cantonniers who can count on the most support in the stands. “I have already seen up to fifty family members, relatives, friends, at a match to encourage me. There are Poulins everywhere in the arena when we play, he laughs. When we have family dinners, I can tell you that I hear about it. It’s always positive. It’s fun and funny to count support like this. ”
And it is clear that Mathys Poulin gives them the opportunity to celebrate.
