The Phoenix ends the decade in style

Despite the absence of nine regular players, the Phoenix offered a victory to the 3002 amateurs present on Tuesday at the Palais des sports de Sherbrooke for the very last part of 2019, thanks to its goalkeeper Thomas Sigouin , in full control of his means.
M agistral in this 3 to 1 victory, Sigouin blocked 33 of 34 catches from the Shawinigan Cataractes.

“We had just lost two games: one in overtime, one in shootout, recalls the doorman of the Phoenix. This victory is good and we have to build on it. Despite the many absences, our club did well today. ”

Samuel Bolduc also led his team to victory by defeating Antoine Coulombe for the first time in the initial period by scoring his very first goal in Sherbrooke uniform since the transaction between the Phoenix and the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada.

“The more I play with the team, the better I will feel with these guys,” admits Bolduc. Our guard made the big stops at the right time. We owe him a proud candle. It’s always more pleasant to leave for the Holidays in a winning atmosphere, but you shouldn’t celebrate too much either! ”

Ludovic Harrisson also scored his first goal since joining the Phoenix to double his lead in the second half.

“I missed my celebration, the guys fooled me a bit, but I was too excited! Launched the recruit laughing.

Benjamin Tardif added some later to bring the score to 3-0.

“A victory before the New Year is always good for morale,” says Tardif. We are missing a lot of players, but we went for the two points anyway. In addition, the recruits played well and helped our club to seek a big victory. Our caretaker was also amazing. ”

Thomas Sigouin was perfect on the 32 shots received until Vasily Ponomarev managed to solve the Sigouin riddle at the end of the game.

“The Cataractes had just suffered three losses in a row and wanted to do well today, says coach Stéphane Julien. Thomas made the key stops when it was time. We were very good on a numerical disadvantage and thanks to our opportunism, we won this game. It is a little disappointing on the other hand to have escaped the whitewashing of Thomas at the very end. ”

“From the second period on, we controlled the game,” believes Shawinigan Cataractes coach Daniel Renaud. We control how we play, but we don’t always control the outcome. We know that the Phoenix played without several regular players, but perhaps we deserved a better lot. ”

Remember that the Phoenix will take a break for a few days before leaving for Abitibi on Friday.
