Beijing – Chinese Foreign Ministry chief spokeswoman Hua Chunying has wished a “speedy recovery” to US President Donald Trump and his wife, Melania , who have tested positive for coronavirus , local media reported today.
Last night Hua wrote a message on the social network Twitter lamenting the positive of the presidential couple and praying for their speedy recovery.
“Sad to know that the president and the first lady of the United States have tested positive. I hope they both have a quick recovery and get well, “the spokeswoman said in her message.
China's relations with the United States are at one of their worst moments in decades after Washington has repeatedly accused Beijing of responsibility for the coronavirus pandemic .
Added to this are the trade war and for technological supremacy, the recent visits to Taiwan by senior US officials or the US sanctions on Chinese leaders for the situation in Hong Kong.
The Chinese ambassador to the US, Cui Tiankai, also expressed on Twitter his desire for a speedy recovery for the Trumps after their positive in SARS-CoV-2.
“Best wishes to President Trump and his wife for a speedy and full recovery,” Cui wrote in a message.
The official Global Times newspaper, which belongs to the People's Daily – the official organ of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) – today also collects some comments on the Chinese social network Weibo, similar to Twitter.
“Diplomatic decency still exists despite the challenges that our two countries face on a wide range of issues,” wrote a citizen in a Weibo message quoted by the newspaper.
“I hope he (Trump) reflects on his strategy to manage the coronavirus,” writes another highlighting the Global Times.
The US president was transferred to a military hospital on Friday as a “precaution” after testing positive for coronavirus, the White House reported.
“President Trump is in good spirits, has mild symptoms, and has been working all day. As a precaution and on the recommendation of his doctor and experts, the president will work from the presidential offices of Walter Reed (hospital) for the next few days, ”said White House spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany.
The decision to transfer Trump came after the president's doctor in the White House, Sean Conley, explained that the president was administered eight-gram doses of the experimental cocktail of antibodies from the pharmaceutical company Regeneron.
In addition, the president has been taking “zinc, vitamin D, famotidine” -a medicine to treat ulcers or gastric reflux-, melatonin (a hormone to treat sleep disorders) and a daily aspirin, the doctor said.
The first lady, Melania Trump, who also tested positive, “is still fine, with only a slight cough and headache, and the rest of (Trump's) family is fine and today they tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 “Conley said.
Trump, 74, meets several of the risk factors for developing more severe symptoms of COVID-19, due to his age, gender and obesity.
