Germany regards Switzerland as a Corona stronghold. This is what drives away the guests, say the local hotels. The Swiss Tourism Organization takes the German decision more calmly.
The Swiss winter season is on the brink for the local hotels.
The Hotel Association HotellerieSuisse rates it as “devastating” that Germany has declared Switzerland a high-risk area due to the high number of corona infections.
A ten-day quarantine for unvaccinated people would certainly prevent guests from spending their holidays in Switzerland, said Karin Sieber, association spokeswoman for the German Press Agency, on Friday.
Germany warns against traveling to Switzerland.
The local hotels are therefore afraid that the German tourists will now be absent.
Switzerland Tourism refers to the many vaccinated Germans who are still allowed to travel freely.

A ten-day quarantine for unvaccinated people would certainly prevent guests from spending their holidays in Switzerland, said Karin Sieber, association spokeswoman for the German Press Agency on Friday.
Measures by Switzerland itself also made the situation difficult, said Sieber. The government lifted quarantine requirements for travelers from the UK, the Netherlands and Belgium on Friday. From Saturday, travelers from all countries, including those who have been vaccinated and recovered, must present a negative PCR test and take another test after entering the country. Before that, the Swiss hotel industry was still confident that it had bottomed out, said Sieber. That changed within a few days.
In contrast to other countries, ski facilities and hotels in Switzerland were open last winter. With many bookings from within Germany, the slump was less severe than in neighboring countries.
«All restrictions are harmful»
The Swiss Tourism Association is more relaxed about the classification as a high-risk area. “All travel restrictions are harmful to Swiss tourism,” said spokesman André Aschwanden of the dpa. However, the vaccination rate in Germany is so high that many Germans can still freely enter Switzerland. “And that would still be better for the industry than the situation last winter 2020/2021 without any foreign guests,” he said.
Anyone who enters Germany from a high-risk area and is not fully vaccinated or recovered, has to be in quarantine for ten days and can only get rid of it with a negative test five days after entering the country at the earliest.
