In a virtual test world from Meta, a woman was cuddled by a stranger. Those present simply approved this behavior.
In the virtual environment of Meta – formerly known as Facebook – a woman has been sexually harassed.
Die VR environment is called Horizon Worlds and has only just been released for testers.
Here people can meet virtually, hold conversations and play games.
Facebook has opened a virtual platform for testers.
There you can exchange ideas with other people using avatars.
One tester reported, however, that she was harassed in the virtual world.
She felt completely alone.
The Facebook group Meta recently released the Horizon Worlds platform for testers. This is a virtual environment in which you can move around with avatars using VR glasses. You also meet other people and can talk to them or play games. As a report now shows, this experience was not only positive for everyone involved.
One of the testers said in a Facebook post that other users had come uncomfortably close to their avatar in the virtual world. She was even groped by a stranger. “Sexual harassment is no joke on the conventional Internet, but when you are in a virtual environment, it makes the whole thing even more violent,” she writes.
Those present watched inactive
Anyone who now believes that other people present in the test environment rushed to help the woman is wrong. “I felt completely alone,” she writes. In fact, those present simply approved the actions and did not intervene.
Vivek Sharma, VP of Horizon World, called the incident “incredibly unfortunate” according to “The Verge”. Meta took a close look at what was happening and found that the tester had not made sufficient use of the security features built into Horizon World. For example, it is possible to block other users so that they can no longer interact with you.
“The feedback from the user is still extremely useful for us,” says Sharma. Because now one can work on making the security features easier to find and better usable.
