Rescue at Parc de la Chute-Montmorency
The Group of recognition and intervention in dangerous environment (GRIMP) of the Fire Protection Service of the City of Quebec had to be deployed, Saturday evening, to help a man in crisis and in a bad position in the Cliff of the Montmorency Falls.
At approximately 9:30 pm, the Quebec City Police Department received a complaint from a woman following an incident in the context of conjugal violence in the Beauport sector. She told the police that her partner was in crisis, intoxicated by alcohol and that he was making suicidal remarks.
Police officers accompanied by a SPVQ dog-handler spotted the man in the Montmorency Falls Park, but he descended into the cliff. The SPVQ has therefore requested the help of the GRIMP to remount it. Luckily, the man did not fall into the water. The GRIMP team has set up a guide rope to allow evacuation of the man, the rope acting as a handrail so that the operations proceed safely.
The suspect, a 27-year-old man was arrested for breaking commitment and the investigation is still ongoing. He was taken to a hospital for assessment and is still detained. He could appear today at the Quebec City courthouse.
