The typical experience of electing the new Miss Venezuela 2020 was also turned upside down by resorting to a different format because of the pandemic. Its transmission was recorded and without public, for the first time in history, and Mariángel Villasmil was announced as the new queen who will represent Venezuela in the international Miss Universe pageant .
In a virtual press conference with national and international media, Villasmil explained that to stay focused during the contest process and the final night, she used the strategy of visualization to achieve that title that she longed for with her heart.
“For me something fundamental in what was this very atypical process was the issue of visualization, because it is a mental work that we had to do to visualize ourselves at that moment of the final night. I confess that for me the first recording, which was the opening, was quite hard because I am the typical girl who dreamed of being at Miss Venezuela on a night full of adrenaline, screaming and anxiety, and of course, we could not live that. But the issue of visualization helped me a lot in the following recordings. It was a hard work of visualization and of understanding that it is an adaptation process, but that it is achieved when you like and are passionate about what you are doing, ”he says.
Even so, the 24-year-old psychology student, who represented the western state of Zulia, described that it was for her a magical night where she lived the great moment imagining that she had her family close by and an audience filling her with applause.
That same night of September 24 when Villasmil was crowned, in Puerto Rico it was announced that Estefanía Soto would be the new sovereign to carry the title of Miss Universe Puerto Rico . Miss Venezuela 2020 said that she has been aware of the election of Soto, as well as other recently elected candidates from various countries.
“I don't think I have spoken with Puerto Rico, but I have followed his election and I think we have had some interaction through social networks,” he replied to El Nuevo Día.
Regarding what aspects of her physique and what areas of her preparation the organization would like to strengthen, Villasmil replied that they have yet to define it, but that she is ready to start working to achieve an impeccable presentation.
“We are in days of holding work meetings, where we are going to define all those types of details, that if look changes, some project and different things that need to be clarified. We have had days of many activities, and well I could not anticipate much and I would also love it to be a surprise, but there are always things to improve and details that can be refined, we will be working on that because we want the representation to be incredible. Improving a preparation requires not only your physical but also your emotional intelligence, the oratory, the speech to transmit and the message that I am going to carry ”, indicated Miss Venezuela 2020, who assured that one of the biggest challenges was physical preparation from the home by not having someone to pressure him to comply with the training and maintain a suitable figure for the competition, due to the same situation of COVID-19 .
Regarding a social work project that he could be presenting at the Miss Universe, Villasmil says he has many options because from what has been his training in terms of social impact he has worked with various causes and that any of them can be a good message to broadcast it in the international contest.
“One of the things that I am most passionate about is entrepreneurship, it is the project that I proposed as a candidate for Miss Venezuela, I am not clear if in the end it is the message I am going to carry. I have also always highlighted the message that accompanies me, which is that of self-love. Any of these causes that work is always going to be good because we are going to provide a beautiful message and it is in the end what really matters, “he said, highlighting the capacity that must be had when adapting to changes and clarified that being optimistic is not ignoring the situation in Venezuela.
“Each of us lives it like the rest of Venezuelans, but simply Miss Venezuela is a company that gives joy to the country, which is part of our culture, and I feel that it is a way to highlight the joy and the beauty that we can deliver to our country, “added the queen whose country has 7 Miss Universe titles.
Two years ago, Sicilia, María Gabriela Isler (Miss Universe 2013) and Jacqueline Aguilera (Miss World 1995) assumed the executive committee of the organization, which underwent a restructuring after the abrupt departure of Osmel Sousa, the so-called Venezuelan beauty czar , who ran the pageant for nearly four decades.
Due to the pandemic, the organizers decided to record each of the candidates separately without masks, in the different parades and stage appearances, and then assembled all the shots in post-production to simulate that they were together.
