Caracas – The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro , wished his US counterpart Donald Trump a speedy recovery from COVID-19 that he contracted this week and hopes that suffering from this disease will make the tycoon “more humane.”
“We express our human solidarity” with Trump, “we want him to regain his health and life. Hopefully all this will lead him to be more reflective, more humane (…) to understand the peoples of the world, ”Maduro said during a televised address.
The Venezuelan president expressed his “accompaniment” to Trump, not to mention that the Republican “underestimated the use of the mask” and the pandemic in general.
“We hope you recover your health (…) we hope you have a speedy and effective recovery,” he insisted.
Trump temporarily left the Walter Reed military hospital this Sunday, where he has been admitted since Friday night after testing positive for coronavirus, to greet by surprise and from a car to the group of supporters who have concentrated in the vicinity of the complex.
Since Friday, the US president has improved, according to his medical team, and although he has registered a second drop in his oxygen levels, he has only shown mild symptoms.
The doctors who treat him assured today that the president could leave the hospital on Monday and continue his treatment with antivirals and steroids in the White House.
Maduro versus Trump
The US president does not recognize the legitimacy of Maduro, whom he designates as a dictator, and has reiterated that his government is open to handling various options to end the so-called Bolivarian Revolution, in power since 1999.
Trump, on the other hand, recognizes the opposition Juan Guaidó as interim president of Venezuela, like the governments of 50 other countries, and has expressed his support for him on numerous occasions, such as when he received him at the White House last February.
Maduro has blamed Trump for the economic crisis that Venezuela is experiencing because, he assures, this is the fault of the numerous sanctions imposed on his Government by the US Executive.
