At a time when the popular candidate for governor, Charlie Delgado , is on record saying that the issue of the gender perspective “confuses and generates passions,” and is under fire for his vague position on the issue and rights of the LBGTTIQ community, a group of legislative candidates from San Juan for the Popular Democratic Party (PPD) announced today a draft bill to establish the duty of the Department of Education to adopt a public policy on education with a gender perspective as an instrument to promote the dignity of the human being and the equality of all before the law.
The bill, indicated in a press release, takes as its starting point DE Circular Letter No. 19-2014-2015 promoted under the administration of Governor Alejandro García Padilla and repealed by the current administration of the New Progressive Party.
The group of popular legislative candidates from San Juan also announced that they will send the draft to Delgado Altieri and the program committee for possible inclusion in the government platform for the elections.

More: What is education with a gender perspective?
“This is an important issue and it must be addressed in the face of the situation of insecurity, violence and lack of opportunities that so many people live in Puerto Rico, but it cannot be forgotten that the gap in providing in our public education a curriculum that integrates the perspective of Gender is the responsibility of the present government of the PNP and the Senate of (Thomas) Rivera Schatz. They were the ones who demanded the repeal of the circular letter that was established in the past popular government as a condition to confirm Julia Keleher as Secretary of Education. They created the problem and we are presenting a possible solution that will promote the dignity of all and all, in addition to helping to save lives without distinction of gender or sexual orientation, “said Vega Ramos.
“I have no doubt that in the PPD and our next Governor Charlie Delgado Altieri we will act at the height of our trajectory in defense of human rights,” he added in written statements.
“This proposal is our responsibility and contribution to the PPD, as well as to the next government and the legislature that the people elect, to respond to the obligation to defend the rights, dignity and life of all without any type of distinction. The Popular Party has always been on the side of the people and our proposal will help make the offer to the electorate clear and concrete, ”added Calderón Cerame.
