France passes the milestone of one million people vaccinated
One million people have been vaccinated against the coronavirus in France, Prime Minister Jean Castex announced on Saturday, less than a month after the launch of the vaccination campaign in the country.
In its national strategy, the French government, under fire from criticism due to a timid start of its vaccine campaign against Covid-19 compared to neighboring countries, counted on the vaccination of 1 million before the end of January.
The Minister of Health Olivier Véran had indicated, Thursday on TF1, that the executive intends to vaccinate 70 million people at the end of August, conditioning however this objective by the availability of vaccines in the country.
Saturday evening, the Ministry of Health said that 1,008,720 people are now vaccinated in France, or 45,581 more than Friday.

The French government claims to have pre-ordered from various laboratories nearly 200 million doses of the vaccine against Covid-19, but the delays in deliveries of the vaccine by the laboratories greatly worry the French health authorities and risk compromising the deployment of the operation .
In the wake of the appearance of the British and South African variants of Covid-19, the High Authority of Health (HAS) on Saturday recommended to postpone the second dose of the anti-Covid vaccine to six weeks to “accelerate” the vaccination campaign .
In a new opinion, the HAS recommended “to extend to six weeks the time between two doses of messenger RNA vaccine (vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna)” in order to “protect more quickly a greater number of people at risk hospitalization or death ”linked to Covid-19.
Moreover, Véran had warned Thursday that the use of a third confinement would become an “absolute necessity” in the event of a “significant” increase in contamination with the English variant of the coronavirus.
