Latin star Eva Longoria will direct and star in the action comedy “Spa Day” for Sony Pictures, Variety magazine reported Friday.
Christine Pietrosh and Jessica Goldstein, who worked with Longoria on the series “Telenovela” (2015-2016), have written the script for this project whose premise is unknown.
Although she launched her acting career thanks to the series “Desperate Housewives” (2004-2012), Longoria has become increasingly interested in working behind the scenes, either as a director or producer.
Her first work as a director was the documentary “Latinos Living the American Dream” (2010) and later she has directed episodes of series such as “Devious Maids”, “Jane the Virgin”, “Telenovela”, “The Mick”, “black-ish ”,“ Grand Hotel ”or“ The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia ”.
She has not yet signed her debut as a director for the cinema, but in addition to “Spa Day”, she plans to be the filmmaker behind the films “Flamin 'Hot” and “24/7”.
All this does not mean that he has left acting aside, since, for example, last year he participated in the very Latin “Dora and the Lost City of Gold” along with other Hispanic artists such as Eugenio Derbez, Isabela Merced (formerly known as Isabela Moner) and Michael Peña.
Longoria has also stood out in recent years for being one of the Latin voices with the most weight in the public debate in the United States and has been involved in numerous initiatives in favor of feminism and the rights of immigrants.
“All women have to know what we are worth, in whatever aspect: we are lawyers, athletes, businesswomen …”, she told Efe earlier this month when she presented, along with other stars such as Serena Williams or Natalie Portman, Angel City women's soccer team from Los Angeles (USA).
“Women are worth a lot and we have to believe in ourselves (…). We represent more than half of the world's population. We should have more power in decision-making and more presence in the industries and in the governments of the countries. We have to jointly improve our self-esteem. We must all say: yes, we are worth much more ”, he assured.
