Escaped by a vehicle in Gatineau: no charge against the police officer
The Gatineau police involved in a fatal prosecution in June 2018 is not to blame, according to the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions (DPCP).
The e June 21, 2018, a man was chased after preview stealing a car parked in the Casino du Lac-Leamy in Hull.
A police officer from Gatineau in a patrol car identified the suspect and got out of his vehicle to arrest him.
The suspect fled the race and headed for Montclair Boulevard. The policeman pursued him, shouting, “Police! Stop! “Several times.
“The guy looked at him and continued his run,” says the DPCP office in a statement released Thursday. After 150 to 200 meters of racing, the individual turned sharply to the right to cross the Montclair Boulevard (…) In the following seconds, the driver of a vehicle traveling on Montclair Boulevard tried to avoid the man performing emergency braking, to no avail. The vehicle hit the individual. ”
Resuscitation attempts failed and the death of the individual was recorded at 4:46.
According to the DPCP, the evidence of the Bureau of Independent Investigations (EIB) does not reveal the commission of a criminal act by the police officer.
