That's what

  • Drake's management asked the Recording Academy to withdraw the Grammy nominations.

  • The 35-year-old is fighting the bottom line of never being nominated in categories other than spoken chant.

  • The Canadian R&B star has often fought with the makers of the Grammys.

Canadian R&B star Drake is giving the Grammys the cold shoulder. His management asked the responsible Recording Academy to withdraw his two nominations, two people familiar with the matter told the AP news agency. Drake's request was then granted. On Monday, the reference to his nominations on the Grammys website had already been deleted.

The four-time Grammy winner was originally nominated for “Certified Lover Boy” in the best rap album category and “Way 2 Sexy” – a collaboration with rappers Future and Young Thug – in the best rap performance category.

Drake has often messed with the makers of the Grammys over the past few years. The 35-year-old goes against the grain by never being nominated in categories other than spoken chant. In his acceptance speech for his Grammy for the hit “God’s Plan” in the category of best rap song of 2019, Drake also questioned the importance of the Grammy Awards. The next awarding of the music prizes will take place on January 31st.
