The Board of Fiscal Oversight (JSF) appointed David A. Skeel, Jr., professor of corporate law and bankruptcy, as chairman of the congressional body, effective today, October 6.
The vote was unanimous.
Skeel will replace José Carrión III, whose presidency ended today. Carrión resigned his post at the Board, as did José Ramón González and Carlos García.
The JSF is still composed of Arthur J. González, Ana J. Matosantos, and Andrew Biggs.
“I am grateful to have been appointed to this position and I continue the mission of the Fiscal Oversight Board for the benefit of the people of Puerto Rico ,” Skeel said in written statements.
“It is an honor to continue working with my fellow Board members and Executive Director Natalie Jaresko to help steer Puerto Rico's fiscal and economic environment toward a brighter future. Surely it will be impossible to fill José's shoes, but I am eager to take responsibility with a firm step towards the future ”.
Skeel is the S. Samuel Arsht Professor of Corporate Law at the University of Pennsylvania School of Law, a position he has held since 2004 after joining the university in 1999.
From 1990 to 1998, Skeel taught at Temple University School of Law, where he was associate professor from 1993 to 1998 and adjunct professor from 1990 to 1993. In addition, he received a BA from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. , and a Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia.
