The mayor of San Juan Carmen Yulín Cruz assured this Wednesday that she will not vote for Carlos “Charlie” Delgado Altieri if the candidate for governor for the Popular Democratic Party (PPD) does not clarify his position on education with a gender perspective, the therapies of conversion and development of the Commonwealth.
She anticipated that some popular expressions could call her a traitor, but she assured that she cannot cast her vote for a person who has not been clear “in saying that men and women are equal in dignity . “
“I said that I was going to vote for the Popular Party, but for me to do that, compatriot 'Charlie' Delgado has to be clear about how he is going to support the gender perspective not only in education, but to produce a more equitable country , and so far it has not. It has to be clear about what this development of the Commonwealth is going to be outside of the territorial clause and where that relationship between Puerto Rico and the United States is going to be hooked ” , he established in a radio interview (WKAQ – 580 AM).
However, Cruz said she is hopeful that Delgado Altieri will be categorical about the issues he questioned and that he will be able to show that his position will not be in search of votes.
“I want to give a fair vote in my conscience that that person represents the values that I want. Although I am the only one, which I am not, who believes in those values, I am going to continue fighting from the platform that I know, ”he stipulated. “If the comrade cannot be categorical about that, I could not conscientiously cast that vote,” he added.
Delgado Altieri faced problems in the debate last Sunday to establish her position on education with a gender perspective. At first, she said she was against it, but then she clarified her expressions and said that she supports it.
The next day, he had a conversation with public servants of his community in which he urged them to turn the page on the subject of “genders” .
“Our focus is education and economic development. Forget about the 'issues' that arise with genres and all these things that, certainly, confuse and generate many passions, especially, “said the applicant.
However, the campaign director of the gubernatorial candidate, Cirilo Tirado, told El Nuevo Día yesterday that Delgado Altieri “is the only candidate available in the country to clearly establish that once he is sworn in as governor, he will establish a state of emergency for violence against women ”.
