Basketball: the Diablos eliminated
THREE-RIVERS — The Diablos of Trois-Rivières have made the weapons at the end of a valiant effort Tuesday night in Laval, undergoing a reverse of 51-41 in front of the Nomades College Montmorency in the quarter-finals of the first division of the circuit collegiate women’s basketball.
The Trifluviennes began the meeting by force, offering the luxury of a short priority 15-13 after the first quarter. Gradually, the Nomads have then managed to forge ahead and the Diablos have managed to reverse the trend.
In his last game in career, Sophie Gobeil has tried everything to send his team to the provincial championship with a surge of 10 points in the fourth quarter, but in vain.
Amélie Collin has been the most productive in the Reds with 13 points, while Megan Gouin has provided 9 points.
Deprived of four key elements for this crucial match – Julia Guillemette was added to Jasmine Martel, Mérédith Bélanger and Mia Blue You already in the infirmary – the Diablos have competed with one of the best teams in the league. “The girls have worked well until the end. It was only seven players, they can be proud of them,” commented the coach. “There simply isn’t seized our opportunities. Our efficiency in the line of three points has not been good, among others (3 in 26),” added Docter.
The Diablos will build on the same core next season, while Sophie Gobeil is the only one to complete its journey to college. “The future is bright,” quipped the coach, in conclusion.
