After judge Sandra Mason was sworn in as the first woman president of Barbados, Mia Mottley announced that the Barbadian singer Rihanna , who is also the special ambassador of her country, will be accepted into the Order of National Heroes. Rihanna attended the midnight ceremony in the capital, Bridgetown, with senior officials.

“In the name of a grateful nation, but an even prouder people, we present you the designated national heroine of Barbados, Ambassador Robyn Rihanna Fenty,” said Prime Minister Mia Mottley. «May you continue to shine like a diamond and honor your nation with your words and deeds wherever you go.»

For the first time in twenty years

< p>Mottley pointed out that the singer came from a simple background and grew up very close. She congratulated the singer, who, with her creativity and exceptional commitment to the country of her birth, inspired the world's imagination.

It's the first time in more than 20 years that Barbados has honored a national hero again: the last person to receive that title was former cricketer Garfield St. Aubrun Sobers. A total of eleven people have been honored since 1998, including a slave who led a rebellion and the first person of African descent to sit in the island's parliament.

The head of government pays tribute to the singer's commitment to her home country. The Grammy winner is moved. Guest of honor Prince Charles also congratulated the singer.

The British heir to the throne had come to represent the English royal family. Barbados announced its separation from the crown 14 months ago. The Queen, who has thus lost one of her original 15 territories, sent her congratulations and congratulated President Mason.
