A woman kills a little girl before taking her own life in Lac-des-Plages

The calm and beauty of Lac-des-Plages gave way to horror Wednesday night when a woman killed a girl before committing suicide.
At this time of year, this municipality welcomes hundreds of holidaymakers in search of fine sand, fresh water and tranquility in nature.

But the Tour-du-Lac road was illuminated by the emergency lights of the Sûreté du Québec cars on Wednesday.

At approximately 4:00 pm, the emergency services were called to intervene in a secondary residence located near the only corner store at number 1890.

The SQ confirmed Thursday morning that it was a murder followed by suicide.

The 40-year-old woman, Julie Meunier, and her five-year-old daughter, Rose, resided in Montreal. Obviously, Mrs. Meunier had rented the place to enjoy a few days of vacation. The father of the little victim was not present. The couple had been separated for a few years.

Authorities spoke of an “intrafamilial tragedy”, but did not specify the cause of death.

However, according to a judicial source, both died asphyxiated.

“We do not really know what to say to our children who see the police car,” said a Lachute vacationer, Martine Richard. The passerby, holding the hand of her boy barely older than the little victim, did not linger in front of the property where the tragedy took place.

The owner of the place did not respond to our interview request sent by email on Thursday.

The property was rented by the woman, thanks to the paid private rental and booking platform AirBnb.

The Mayor of Lac-des-Plages, Louis Venne, did not make our calls.

Another passerby, a man in his forties, was miserly with comments, but his tense face spoke volumes about his state of mind. “I do not think I know these people,” said the resident. It’s just sad. There is nothing more to add. ”

Lac-des-Plages is located northeast of the Outaouais, on the border of the Laurentians, about forty kilometers from Mont-Tremblant.

The SQ did not add any other details on this case.

The Coroner has also opened an investigation.
