A fire destroyed a building on Louis XIV
A building was ravaged by flames Thursday night on Boulevard Louis XIV.
The Quebec Fire Protection Service received several calls around 9:00 pm for a fire that broke out on a building roof and tall flames.
The building located from 370 to 374 boulevard Louis XIV housed two shops on the ground floor, Litchi Coiffure urbain and Növa Esthétique Clinic, as well as a basement unit.
At the time of the fire, a hairdresser and a customer are present in the hair salon. A family also occupies the dwelling. Before the firefighters arrive, citizens, who have noticed the fire on the roof, quickly evacuate the five people who are still in the building.
Arriving at the scene, firefighters request additional staff with a 2nd alarm. The fire is completely exploded, sparks escape from the electrical wires for power to the building. Part of the roof collapses.
The 35 firefighters at work use high-flow water jets and the water cannon of an aerial ladder to circumscribe the flames. At 10:42 pm, the Chief announced the situation under control.
The fire damage to the roof and the ground floor are major. Most of the damage to the subsoil is caused by the extinguishing water.
The Red Cross has taken care of the housing residents. Traffic was closed during the firefighters’ intervention. An investigation was initiated to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
