Thirteen people were killed when a passenger van turned over and caught fire on a highway on the way to Karachi, Pakistan , on Saturday night Sunday, authorities said.
The vehicle fell into a ditch after being struck by an object from another vehicle, said Aftab Pathan of the highway police.
He said the van caught fire when he spilled fuel. Rescuers recovered 13 charred corpses, including at least three children, while five people were rescued alive, including a 1-year-old boy.
Authorities say they will need DNA testing to determine the identity of the victims.
Road accidents are common in Pakistan, where many motorists ignore safety standards and traffic rules, apart from the fact that poor road conditions contribute to accidents.
